SAFETY FIRST
STUNTS AND TUMBLING
Some of the parents or cheerleaders might have some questions regarding stunting. Here is some information that hopefully will help clear up any questions you might have. If you wish that your daughter not participate in stunting please let me know. All the coaches take stunting seriously and do not want to have a injured cheerleader.
BEWARE OF THE RISK
Cheerleading is a sport and with any sport there is a risk of injury. Cheerleading is an anaerobic/aerobic activity that includes jumping, stunting, motions, and tumbling. Coaches should be informed of any injury or chronic conditions before performing. Although the probability of injury is minimized if you practice correctly, there is always the possibility of one occurring. Injuries that can occur in cheerleading include: blisters, muscle strain, ligament sprains, joint and muscle soreness, abrasions, contusions, stress fractures etc.. However if you take certain precautions, the possibility of such injuries may be largely decreased. Be sure to abide by the following:
1. Never Stunt or tumble unless a coach is present
2. Always practice in the presence of a coach
3. Always warm-up appropriately before cheering(practice and games) by jogging and stretching.
4. Do not attempt a stunt that you do not know how to perform safely and that has not been cleared by the coach
5. Always use attentive spotters when stunting.
6. Never talk, laugh, or mess around when performing a stunt or learning a stunt.
7. Report injuries to the coach as soon as they occur.
8. Always wear shoes and clothing appropriate for cheerleading.
9.Never wear jewelry of any kind or chew gum when cheering including practice and games.
10. Always have hair pulled back from your face and shoulders
11. Always ask for assistance or advice at any time.
12. Never show off
13. Take all activities seriously
14. Do not participate in cheerleading if you are sick
15. Do not attempt a stunt if you do not feel comfortable doing it.
16. Please let a coach know if you do not want to participate in a stunt.
If you have any questions please let me know. My goal is that every cheerleader loves cheer and always feels comfortable in what they are doing. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any concerns.
